South of Perth Yacht Club has a proud offshore racing history and remains a key contributor to ocean racing in Western Australia. From legendary yachts such as Castille, Golden Eagle and Eun-na-Mara to today’s offshore competitors, SoPYC continues to support sailors tackling WA’s premier bluewater events.

Geraldton Ocean Classic

The Geraldton Ocean Classic is Western Australia’s longest-running annual Category 2 offshore yacht race and a cornerstone of the state’s ocean racing calendar. Traditionally held in late October, the race features a fast downwind passage to Geraldton followed by a challenging return south.

Recognised as a qualifying race for the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, the Geraldton Ocean Classic remains a must-do event for aspiring offshore sailors.

Together with the Lobster Pot Regatta, the event forms a multi-race series combining competitive racing with a strong social atmosphere.
