Pieces of Eight
Ocean Race
With a proud ocean racing heritage, South of Perth Yacht Club welcomes back the Pieces of Eight Ocean Race for its second edition. Competitors will vie for a place on the honour boards celebrating the outstanding contributions of club legends Bernie Kaaks and Cherry Callcott.
This unique offshore race follows a dynamic course through Perth’s coastal and island waters. The route forms a loose figure-eight around Rottnest Island, before heading inshore through Cockburn Sound and north along Perth’s stunning coastline.
The Race
At approximately 90 nautical miles, the race offers a varied and engaging passage with constant tactical challenges. From navigation and sail selection to every tack and gybe, the entire crew will play a crucial role throughout the race.
Designed as an accessible bluewater challenge, the event gives a wide range of boats and crews the opportunity to experience offshore racing, with all entrants expected to finish within 24 hours.
The popular SS27 fleet continues to demonstrate that ocean racing is within reach of all sailors. Gather your crew, test your skills, and chase the glory that awaits at the finish line.
