S80 Sailor Development Program
Ready to take the next step in keelboat racing? The S80 Sailor Development Program helps sailors build the skills and confidence needed to become race-ready crew and, if desired, progress toward skippering a yacht.
Delivered by experienced volunteers from the S80 fleet and wider keelboat community, the program provides practical, hands-on training using the S80 Association training yacht Grand Piano.
Training Modules
Spinnaker Skills
Learn the fundamentals of downwind sailing, including:
- Spinnaker hoists and recoveries
- Gybes and sail handling
- Trimming sheet and brace
- Helming under spinnaker
Racing Skills
Develop the knowledge and techniques needed for competitive racing:
- Sail and boat trim
- Race starts
- Racing Rules of Sailing
- Tactics and strategy
- Wind awareness
- Teamwork and crew communication
- Mini-regatta race practice
